Last night, I went to Joseph La Piana‘s exhibition for a line of rugs he designed for Nying Zemo. The rugs were shown at the Robert Miller Gallery in Chelsea. The business model of Nying Zemo is to partner with amazing artists to create high quality rugs with a lot of PR power to bring the attention back to the women who hand-make them. They provide jobs and a quality work environment to these women, which is difficult in Nepal. Every knot and color is hand done – which takes up to 20 weeks. They also donate a portion of their proceeds to fighting women trafficking in Nepal.
These rugs are beautiful enough on their own, but the story behind them and the purpose that they serve for the women in Nepal makes them worth every penny.

Congratulations Shalini & Simi. I regret I couldn’t make it to the event; the rugs look fantastic!
